under Mrs. Mathis' leadership. The technology component will entail the review of Colonial Days (via creating a PP Game with questions and 'legal' images) and sequencing the events of the American Revolution (via creating a timeline with images, using TimeToast). Let's go!

So excited to be working with our interns in the early childhood class - this semester Can'y wait to talk and share - technology integration! Their journey of their Project Approach (Reggio Emilia Approach)
http://projectapproach.org/ProjectApproachStudyGuide.pdf will be archived as a digital story. So fun and informative! More to come! Oh, yes! Summer fun is here! Mrs. Mathis has invited me to work with students enrolled in EDU332: Science and Social Studies in Diverse Classrooms Module! Shouts to her and the students! Tonight - we will be working on a standards-based scavenger hunt that focuses on Social Studies (e.g., U.S. Constitution) and a concpet map which integrates Tier 3 words (TN Academic Vocabulary). We will be using two different tech tools: Padlet ( http://padlet.net) and Spiderscribe (http://www.spiderscribe.net) REMINDER: Spiderscribe: You may need to reset share settings in Spiderscribe – Public with Link Click on upper right corner- Share Then, look just below the words – Sharing Setting. There is a dropdown box…Choose Public with Link. Highlight an copy the link and post it here as a comment to the blog about your class. Padlet: Look to the right of the screen for Share/Export Notice that there are several ways to share (e.g., embed, link). Look for the URL to share. Highlight an copy the link and post it here as a comment to the blog about your class. I am sooooooooooooooooooo looking forward to the time together. They will post their scavenger hunt and concept map, as Comments to this blog post, for review. Can't wait! Ah, hats off to a group of teachers taking the Early Childhood Summer Institute at Union University.
Welcome. It was so good to chat with them the other night in WebEx, as the first class session unfolded. Wow! I am looking forward to meeting them face-to-face today - as we work together on a digital story. The digital story will be standards-based and created using StoryJumper. The teachers will: 1. Identify the standards 2. Determine and jot down the text/script 3. Plan, select and gather the illustrations/pictures 4. And create the book during class. So excited! During the session, we will play around with Digital Citizenship and learn how to compress images. Each will add the URL to their story here - as a comment. Looking forward to sharing and learning - together. Thank you. To view each book, click on the author's name. History Game (PowerPoint)/The American Revolution

We will chat about technology integration in the math classroom - with emphasis on curriculum - Data Collection and Geometry. Data Collection: We will take a close look at Google Doc Form (http://google.com) with its collaboration feature and PollEverywhere (https://www.polleverywhere.com ) . Both webtools have apps. 8) Then, we will focus on the virtual manipulatives at the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives: http://nlvm.usu.edu for Geometry. The Common Core Standards focusing on the student's ability to: 1.Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. 4. Model with mathematics 5. Use appropriate tools strategically. 6. Attend to precision. 7. Look for and make use of structure. and 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. With these in mind, we will think toward assessment and look at Voki (http://voki.com). Voki is a FREE service that lets you: Create customized avatars. Add voice to your Voki avatars. Post your Voki to any blog, website, or profile. What are parallel lines? Another tool to be used in assessment is VoiceThread (VT). VT is a Web2.0 tool to create cloud conversations. The tool allows uploading of still images or video clicks, voiceover, doodle, callout and title frame. A VT could be created my the students to show what they have learn.
Classifying Triangles http://voicethread.com/#q.b1069251.i0.k0 Higher Order of Geometry https://voicethread.com/share/5045129/ Timelines and PowerPoint games are a must with these preservice teachers! Their PP Games were created from 'scratch'. They dropped them into their Dropbox account and will share the URL here. Can't wait! The students used TimeToast at http://www.timetoast.com/ to create a Social Studies timelines. They plotted the date of the even, added an informative captions and uploaded a significant picture to - help tell the story. The URLs are located in the COMMENT section of this blog. Check them out! What fun! Happy Friday! Union's student teaches welcomed Machelle Griffin to the Student Teacher Seminar today. Mrs. Griffin is a Union graduate (twice) and a veteran teacher. Currently, she teachers at South Elementary in Jackson. Mrs. Griffin's presentation - Dare to be a "Techie" Teacher - Smartboard 102 - gave the students an understanding of the parts and whole of the integration of the interactive whiteboard in the classroom. She focused on the ActivInspire software and Promethean Planet website, both compatible to most interactive whiteboards (e.g., Interwrite, Promethean, SMART). A special 'thank you' to Mrs. Griffin for coming and sharing with our students. It is always a delightful to welcome our graduates back to campus to share. What an opportunity - doing what I love to do! Dr. Julie Glosson invited me to share with her Language/Methods class - preservice teachers headed to the classroom for field experiences and for student teaching (Spring, 2014). They needed a little interactive white board encouragement and experience. We made it happen - together. 8) We discussed: Interactive (smart) white boards = InterWrite, Smart, Team, Promethean. Then, we focused on the partnership of Promethean Planet (website) and ActivInspire (software), creating a teaching tool. They have the treasure box they asked for AND the beginning skills/concepts necessary to create/tweak flipcharts. They are ready! I can't wait to hear about their new adventures, as they unpack the new tools and enhance their teaching strategies!
