Yes, I am dusting off the sand and following footprints to the P-16 Summer Summit Teaching with Technology in Cleveland, TN. So excited!
I will be leading a session at 1:00 entitled
"Mama, Will You Show Me?"
Grade Level: Elem
DESCRIPTION: "I want to help him with his homework, but I don't know how!" cried Mama. Do you know parents or caregivers who find themselves in the same situation as Mama? This session attempts to close the teaching-learning gap for parents/caregivers through the development of curriculum based mini-lessons. The mini-lessons are created using VoiceThread. They are designed as independent teaching tools, and focus on the development of specific concepts and skills (e.g., blending letter sounds, placement and relationship of planets). The mini-lessons are organized and hyperlinked to the class website for easy access. Preservice teacher samples will be viewed and discussed.

Melessia Mathis, Assistant Professor at Union, and I will be leading a sessions at 10:30am and 2:00pm titled -
Grade Level: Elem
DESCRIPTION: Time for social studies instruction has intensified as a result of state testing in reading and mathematics and the reduction in instructional time in other subject areas. The gap between social studies goals and the curriculum that teachers are actually able to enact ? increases (Wills, 2007). To accommodate the time-crunch and to begin to close the teaching-learning gap, we suggest an intentional integration of reading and social studies. We will discuss a variety of reading programs and purposeful implementation of both low tech activities (e.g., globeballooning), as well as digital/online projects (e.g., reflective comics). Preservice teacher samples will be shared.

The keynote address will be given by Jan Coley, Instructional Technology Specialist and Science Coordinator for Jefferson County Schools. She has been with Jefferson County schools for 25 years. She will T.A.P. into the Standards and take a look at Technology, Assessment and best Practices to aid teachers and students with achieving instructional goals for learning and addressing TN curriculum standards. Those in attendance will take a look to the future with the Common Core standards. Technology provides the tools to hook and engage students while developing 21st Century Skills.
In addition, vendors, door prizes, lunch and a gazillion workshops which focus on current trends and effective integration of technology in P-12 setting will be at our fingertips! Time (7:30am-4:15pm) will fly ...'cause we will be having so much fun - learning!
